What kind of work should ArtToy do first?

What should I do first to become an Art Toy writer? According to the survey, it seems that they are active in two main areas.

What tech tree should I make?

- an artist who focuses on formative beauty and artistry

Most of the writers who searched seem to be in this area.

Using a 3D printer or 3D pen. Or sometimes I make my own artwork using materials such as clay or old sculptures. So, they make copies based on the first original and sell them with serial numbers. It gives the collection value of a limited edition, and in some cases, all products are not 100% the same as the original, but each numbering has a little bit of personality.

It seems to be a structure in which the first original and a small amount of production are exhibited at exhibitions or fairs, gained recognition, and after sales or a fan base is formed, additional production is decided. In this case, the initial input cost is low, so it seems that it will be a structure that most writers have no choice but to start this way.

Personally, in this case, it's in the category of Art Toy because it's similar to a figure, but should this be considered Art Toy? I do think so. The difference and boundaries between sculptures and installation works sold in the field of existing pure art or commercial art are ambiguous. I think it's hard to approach from the perspective of Toy. I think this is just the realm of art rather than the combination of art and toy. Of course, it can be different after recognition builds up and mass production is decided.

Nowadays, the price of 3D printers is gradually decreasing, so the barrier to entry seems to be decreasing a lot.

I think the penetration rate will rise as 3D modular programs gradually change to be consumer-friendly and easy like editing programs.

- We set the concept from the beginning and collaborate and market through mass production.

This is probably the case of Bearbrick, which is almost pioneering the field of Art Toy. From the beginning, the toy company sets the concept and produces it in large quantities. And it has various variations to stimulate the desire for collection.

The buyer does not have such a great burden on the price, and it is up to the buyer to decide whether to treat it as a collection, as a toy, or as an interior prop. This seems to be closer to Toy's than to the realm of art.

Of course, it adds a little bit of artistry through newly released printing or collaboration with artists with many compositions, but it still has a larger position in the toy area.

In order to choose this method, planning power must be good from the beginning, distribution channels must be broken, and above all, initial investment costs will be required. We have to produce in large quantities from the beginning. You'll have to take at least a few hundred thousand units. And it will be difficult to set a high price for each individual. Because it's a toy to the end.

In this case, like the mass media, there is an advantage that it is good to spread the planner's intentions and messages to a wider consumer group. Artistry may be inferior, but the artist has the opportunity to communicate with the majority in another area.

I'm dreaming of being an Art Toy writer. In what direction should I plan and prepare?

I've been thinking about it every now and then. What would suit the worldview I want to create better?

Should I buy 3D modeling and a printer and practice it...

I hope I have a chance to meet the artists of Art Toy who are having similar concerns.
