Here is today’s black tea recommendation.
Let’s prepare the tea and the tea cups.
Today’s tea is Hediard’s Apple Tea. I guess the name is quite self-explanatory. J
I’ve used tea for one set this time.
As you can see from the above picture, tea-for-one
set is a combination of the tea pot and the tea cup in one set.
Today’s teas are not in tea bags. They are leaf teas.
Actually, they are not leaf teas. They are more of powdered or grinded teas.
I mentioned types of black teas before, and
I said the better quality teas tend to keep their original forms while poor
quality teas tend to be produced in grinded or powdered form.
However, that is just a tendency and not
always the case. So, please don’t
misunderstand.
Hediard is a tea blending company with very
long tradition and produces very high quality black teas.
In case of this Apple Tea, the box
indicates that it has included 97% of good quality Sri Lanka origin black teas
and 3% of apple additives.
You can easily tell the quality of black
teas when you taste it.
If you over brew the tea and it tastes too
bitter so that it made you feel unpleasant or smells musty, you can say that
the tea is made up of poor quality tea leaves.
If they used good quality tea leaves, the
tea would still taste soft though it might be little bitter.
After tasting this apple tea, I could tell
that it was using fairly good quality leaves.
If you are using the tea for one, you can
filter out tea leaves if you are really careful when pouring into the cup.
However, this black tea is in powdered form
so it won’t be easy to filter entre leaves out even if you are careful with it.
In this case, you can use dashi bag to make
your own tea bang. I bought my dashi bag
from Daiso.
If you can use dashi bag, it will be so
much easier to filter out the tea leaves as well as cleaning up when you’re
done.
The spoon you can see on the above picture
is called tea measure. It is specially
designed to measure proper amount of tea leaves for one cup of tea
(250ml).
You can easily buy this form
the online shop.
It will be so much easier to make your own
tea bags with these tools, and you don’t have to buy teas in a bag every time.
You can make the tea bag like this and
prepare the tea.
The best thing about using the tea pot is
that you can enjoy changing taste as brewing time goes on.
You will be able to see bright scarlet
color after brewing 3~4 minutes.
While you’re drinking your first cup, the
teas in the tea pot keeps brewing and your second cup will be darker as seen
above picture.
The taste, along with the color and the
scent, obviously gets deeper.
You can enjoy many different states of tea
if you use the tea pot.
People who have a mania for strong tea
enjoy the last drop from the tea pot which is called “golden drop”.
Just like a tail of the eel. J Hmmm… that sounded like and
old man…
OK, shall I move on?
Though it’s called apple tea, I wasn’t able
to smell or taste any mint like apple herb tea.
I smelled more of black teas from it and I
could only smell little bit of sweet apple when I tried to smell it from close
distance.
Before Sri Lanka changed its name, the
country was known as Ceylon.
So, the famous Ceylon teas are made from
Sri Lanka.
I should probably categorize the black teas
according to its place of origin later.
This apple tea is only using the black teas
originated from Sri Lanka.
It tastes heavy yet soft.
Once you swallow the tea, it leaves strong
aftertaste of apple all over the mouth.
Whether it is a single of blended tea, all
high class black teas leave strong aftertaste like whisky.
You will be able to enjoy very long time
with just one cup of tea.
It is known that high class Darjeeling tea
leaves aftertaste of green grapes.
This is just my opinion, but I think the
tea master from Hediard may have felt sweet fruit from this Ceylon tea.
So, he/she might have added little bit of
apple scent to maximize its aftertaste.
I could say that this is the tea I want to
drink while sitting on a sandy beach under blazing sun.
Hope this makes sense to you. J
OK, this is it for today. Bye~
